
Chief Marketing Officer, Absa Bank
Carolyne Kendi is the Chief Marketing Officer at Absa Bank Kenya PLC, a position she has held since December 2022. She is leading the next phase of Absa's brand growth journey, which is focused on solidifying Absa's brand purpose of Bringing Possibilities to Life as the bank continues to play its rightful role in supporting Kenya's economic transformation. She is in charge of providing strategic direction and oversight for Brand, Marketing, Communications, Sustainability, and Corporate Relations. Kendi has over 20 years of brand building experience, having started as a graduate trainee at Unilever in 2002, shortly after graduating from the University of Nairobi. She later joined East African Breweries Limited (EABL) in 2007 as Brand Manager for Tusker, where she was instrumental in the successful expansion of the Tusker Project Fame show. She rose to the position of Marketing Manager while also working as the Diageo portfolio's Head of Spirits, inspired by the art of storytelling and brand experience as critical growth drivers for brands. This passion led her to Safaricom PLC, where she had the privilege of leading the brand's repositioning to its current brand promise - Simple, Transparent, Honest For You, powering commercial delivery and brand consideration through impactful proposition campaigns - "Future of Money - MPESA, Mwelekeo Ni Internet, and Built for Bigger, a campaign aimed at small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Kendi holds an MBA in Strategic Management from the United States International University - Africa, as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM-UK).
